The Manitou is one of my all-time favorite reads. I recently reread it and it was just as fresh and funny – and terrifying – as it was the first time I read it well over two decades ago. Written from the point of view of protagonist Harry Erskine, a man who makes his money as a sham tarot reader telling little old ladies what they want to hear, the novel works especially well because Harry knows he’s a fraud and because he holds a healthy skepticism for all things supernatural. When he is confronted by the real thing, the action – and the wit – is unrelenting. All of Masterton’s Harry Erskine books work- Harry is the perfect imperfect hero.

After reading Audrey Rose, I decided I was probably going to be a pretty big fan of anything by Frank De Felitta – so I got a copy of THE ENTITY and promptly proved myself right. THE ENTITY is fascinating, chilling, and surprisingly unpredictable. I recommend it to lovers of classic horror and anyone looking for something familiar – but just a little bit different. An outstanding read.

THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR may be Anne Rivers Siddons one and only scary stories, but it is far and above one of the best spooky tales ever told. I’ve read it twice already and know I’ll go back to it whenever I need a good, solid, creepy fix. THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR has it all: unforgettable characters, an unpredictable plot, and an ‘I-didn’t-see-that-coming!’ ending that will give your goosebumps goosebumps. Highly recommended to lovers of gothics of all variety.

The best Gothic horror novel I’ve read in a long time. Haunting, unsettling, and beautifully written, fans of atmospheric Victorian novels should look no further than The Silent Companions. I read it almost a year ago and am still thinking about it. Looking forward to more from Laura Purcell.

If you love classic horror, don’t miss out on THE SENTINEL by Jeffrey Konvitz. This is one of the books that inspired me to write. Creepy, haunting, memorable, and deliciously shuddersome with characters that will stick with you – and creep you out – for a long, long time. An easy 5 full stars.

Brother Against Brother
Life in Crimson Cove has been good to the Colter Brothers since Gretchen VanTreese was staked and her horde of vampires scattered. Brooks is once again human, and Cade, the rare Sire Gretchen had determined to take as her mate, is in love. Then the unthinkable happens: Gretchen rises from the grave, and the brothers are torn apart, their lives – and the peace between them – shattered.
A Trail of Blood
When Cade comes into possession of an ancient ceremonial dagger he awakens a power so deadly it defies comprehension. Meanwhile, a serial killer is stalking the little mountain town, leaving a trail of blood that leads to a truth Sheriff Ethan Hunter doesn’t want to face. And unknown to either of them, Gretchen is preparing to reopen her notorious nightclub, The Crimson Corset – and building an army to destroy her enemies and reclaim Cade Colter as her own.
A New Breed of Evil
The streets are no longer safe, nor are the forested paths, for a new and unknowable evil has come to Crimson Cove and everyone – vampire and human alike – must come together in order to survive.
For book 1 in the series, THE CRIMSON CORSET is also available at Amazon!
“Put Bram Stoker in a giant cocktail shaker, add a pinch of Laurell K. Hamilton, a shot of John Carpenter, and a healthy jigger of absinthe, and you’ll end up with Alistair Cross’s modern Gothic chiller, “The Crimson Corset” – a deliciously terrifying tale that will sink its teeth into you from page one.”
– Jay Bonansinga, New York Times Bestselling author of THE WALKING DEAD: INVASION and LUCID
